Div 7 USCG Auxiliarists Larry Neu (Flotilla 74), Kerry Saruwatari (Flotilla 74), and Jim Fogle (Flotilla 72) check out the Earthrace vessel that was tied up in Tampa during their Security/Safety patrol on Dec. 10, 2006.

Originating in Auckland, New Zealand; Earthrace is a bid to break the world record for circumnavigating the globe in a powerboat, and using only renewable fuels. The program includes an 18-month tour calling at 60 of the worlds great cities, promoting fuels like biodiesel, and raising awareness about sustainable use of resources. The 13-ton Carbon Kevlar wave-piercing 78-foot trimaran, powered by 2,540 HP Cummins Mercruisers, has a beam of 24’, a draft of 4’ and a range 3000 NM with a crew of four. The actual race is scheduled to begin in Barbados in March of 2007.
